Commission agents of Jind district today proceeded on a three-day strike over alleged indifferent attitude of Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri. They demanded an apology from the Deputy Commissioner or he be transferred to some other district.
Representatives of all seven mandis in the district gathered at the mini-secretariat to lodge a protest against e-trading and direct payment to farmers. They wanted to hand over a memorandum of demands to the Deputy Commissioner (DC).
Jagdish Bhardwaj, president of the Jind Arhtiya Association, said the Deputy Commissioner had deputed an SDM to accept their memorandum and they insulted and refused to hand it over to the SDM. “We are an important association of the district and wanted to hand over the memorandum to the DC. We kept waiting for four hours (from 12 noon to 4 pm) at the mini-secretariat but the DC chose to ignore us. We have always cooperated with the administration and donated liberally for social works, including the recent initiative of gaushalas,” said Bhardwaj.
He said the association would not cooperate with the district authorities for works beyond their trade.
Meanwhile, the DC said he was busy with the weekly revenue court till 4 pm. “I had asked the SDM to meet arhtiyas and accept their memorandum. Arhtiyas can come again to meet me and raise their issue,” he said.
