Palwal, July 6

The police have arrested 17 persons in connection with a clash between two communities in the district’s Tikri Brahman village on Sunday. More than 45 persons were reportedly injured.

Nearly 350 police personnel have been deployed in the village. The police staged a flag march in Tikri Brahman today to, what they said, instil confidence in villagers.

Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Meena claimed the situation was under control.

An argument between youths over throwing water on a girl of majority community at a tubewell escalated into a clash, resulting in stone pelting. Vehicles and houses were damaged.

The police said they were making efforts to broker peace between the two communities. The DC said the police were investigating into the reason for clash.

Meena said 39 persons were under treatment, while six persons were discharged after first-aid. Nearly 10 seriously injured persons were referred to Delhi, he added.
