As many as 684 farmers in the district, who lost their kharif crops to localised calamities like waterlogging, will be provided a compensation of Rs 2.92 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
Sources said in all, 1,074 farmers had filed applications claiming compensation under the scheme. However, the claims of 235 farmers were rejected after an inquiry while155 applications were under-consideration. A total cultivated area of 723.57 hectare was found affected by the calamity, the sources maintained.
“Similarly, 89 farmers in Rewari district will be able to get a total compensation of Rs 10.42 lakh for the damaged crop spread over 82.32 hectares. In all, 378 farmers had submitted claim forms for the crops damaged by waterlogging but 287 claims were cancelled during the inquiry,” said the sources.
In Mahendragarh, 45 farmers had applied for insurance claim for crop loss. Two claims were annulled while two are under consideration. A total compensation of Rs 94,000 would be paid to Mahendragarh farmers against the cultivated area of 12.37 hectare found affected by waterlogging, said the sources.
Resentment prevailed among affected farmers in all three districts against the state government for not ensuring them compensation in time even despite adopting the insurance scheme. The declaration of compensation amount would bring some relief to the farmers who had been waiting for the same for the past several months, the sources said.
Rohtas Singh, Deputy Director (Agriculture), Jhajjar, said the cheques for compensation would be given to affected farmers at a programme. Haryana Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar was likely to be the chief guest of the function, he added.
Meanwhile, Dhankar’s media adviser Praveen Khurana said the compensation would be distributed among all farmers across the state by the end of January.
