71% people drink impure water in MLA’s village: Survey

More than 71 per cent households in Kharar village are forced to consume unfit water, while 20 per cent purchase it from water tankers and only 2 per cent get supply water at their doorstep.

It is the native village of BJP Bawani Khera MLA Bishember Balmiki.

A Need Assessment Survey on promotion of health and hygiene supervised by Deepika Malhotra was conducted by the Department of Social Work, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University (CBLU).

As many as 70 households, excluding six anganwadi workers, ASHA worker, sarpanch, sub-health centre, water work officials, 71 per cent of the people revealed that they were using hand pumps for meeting their water needs. While 20 per cent said that they had to purchase it from private water tankers.

Only 7 per cent said that they had installed RO systems at their home to avoid any water borne related disease. Only 2 per cent of the residents said that they get supply from the water works.

Sunita Hans, a house maker in the village said, “Not 71 per cent but all residents were forced to drink unfit water which is supplied four to five times a month.”

Balmiki said that people were forced to fetch water from far off areas or through water tankers. The government is planning to solve at the earliest, he added.
