Hisar, December 6

A security guard of a bank today opened fire in the air reportedly to keep the situation under control in Barwala town of the district. There have been several incidents of ruckus, stone pelting and road blockade by irate customers at the banks in the last couple of days.

Umed Singh, Barwala SHO, said Anil Kumar, guard at the HDFC’s Barwala branch, had had been booked under Section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter). He said that no one was hurt in the incident.

The SHO said police personnel were present at the bank at the time of the incident and the situation was well under control. Bank officials, however, claimed that the gathering outside the bank had swelled and could get out of control, as some windowpanes of the bank were damaged in the melee.

Meanwhile, apprehending untoward incidents, banks have pasted notices cautioning the costumers with criminal action. “If any person is found to be misbehaving or assaulting bank employees on bank premises, they will be booked under Sections 332, 352 and 353 of the IPC,” reads a notice outside an HDFC branch in Hisar.
