To create awareness among Dalit women about their rights, women activists of the National Conference of Dalit Adivasi Organisation (NACDOR) and Rashtriya Dalit Maha-andolan (RDM) today started its 11-day “Mahila Samman Yatra” from Nahri village in the district today.

Rajni Tilak, president of the RDM, told the media 40 villages in Rai block would be covered during the “yatra” which would conclude at Jagdishpur village on September 30. “Today, we covered Nahri, Kundli, Nangal Kalan and Nathupur villages.”

“We will also organise a Mahila Shiksha Samman meeting at Asawarpur village in the district on October 1, in which the volunteers promoting education among Dalit women in Delhi and Haryana will be honoured,” Tilak said.

During meetings with women, she said, the stress was laid on the importance of education, women’s rights and to inspire them from the success stories of Dalit women teachers, including Savitribai Phule — the first woman teacher from the Dalit community.
