Sirsa, October 22

One more death has occurred due to suspected dengue in Sirsa even as 32 confirmed and 149 suspected cases of dengue have come to the fore in the past two days in the district.

With the death of Pawan Kumar Godara (42) in a private hospital yesterday, the death toll due to dengue has reached four (two as per official figures) in Sirsa.

Godara belonged to Chautala village and residents of his village and neighbouring Aboobshehar, Saktakhera, Ganga and Goriwala alleged that a large number of patients from their villages had been suffering from dengue. They asserted that 15 patients from Chautala and neighbouring villages were being treated for dengue in Sirsa, Bathinda (Punjab) and Sangaria (Rajasthan).

Dr Suraj Bhan Kamboj, Civil Surgeon, today confirmed that the death of Kavita (17), a schoolgirl from Roopawas village, on October 18 was due to dengue.

Meena Rani (33) from local Subhash Basti and Poonam (22) were other dengue victims but Dr Kamboj maintained that the latter was from Punjab and had come to Sirsa only for treatment. He said the Health Department was yet to receive any reports to confirm that Pawan Kumar Godara had died of dengue. — TNS
