Karnal, July 17

Thousands of selected JBT teachers held a rally at grain market here today on the conclusion of their statewide rath yatra which started from Sirsa in the beginning of July to protest the delay in their appointments.

They were adamant on taking the rally to other places, too, but the police did not allow them to do so till late in the evening.

The protesters resolved not to leave the venue till they had an interaction with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar or his representative. Earlier, they blamed the government for not fulfilling its promises.

Rajinder Yadav, state convener of the Chaynit JBT Sangharsh Samiti (CJSS), said 9,455 JBT teachers were selected in 2014 and 3,276 in April 2015, but no appointment letter had been issued to them so far. “Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar assured us of appointment letters in 77 days, but nothing has been done even after 400 days,” he maintained.

“We will not leave the venue untill we interact with the Chief Minister,” said Promila, state women convener of the CJSS.

They lifted their dharna on an assurance of a meeting with the CM in Chandigarh on July 19. They handed over a memorandum to the Karnal Tehsildar .
