The Municipal Corporation has started work to repair the seven entry gates of the city. There are eight gates in the old city — Arjun Gate, Karan Gate, Jato Gate, Kalandri Gate, Banso Gate, Dyalpura Gate, Jundla Gate and Subhash Gate.

Mayor Renu Bala Gupta said, “We have started work on the Arjun Gate. A statue of Arjun would be installed at this gate. The Karan Gate is situated in the centre of the market and a design would be finalised for its beautification. The designs of other gates have also been prepared.”

The Mayor said Rs 25 lakh had been assigned for renovation of the gates, adding tenders would be floated for construction of each gate.

Residents are elated over the MC move to repair the gates. Deepak Kumar, a resident, said the gates were closed at night for safety of the residents in the past. Another resident said their condition had deteriorated with the passage of time.

Meanwhile, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta said CM Manohar Lal Khattar had announced that one of the gates would be named after Guru Nanak.
