The National Green Tribunal today issued notices to the state government, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board seeking response on plea demanding restriction on commercial vehicles transiting through Gurgaon for reportedly leading to air pollution.

The notice came after the hearing of a plea filed by city advocate Ashwini Kumar, who had moved the tribunal highlighting that air pollution in Gurgaon was extremely high and affecting the health of the residents. He had drawn Bench’s attention to commercial vehicles transiting through Gurgaon and the increasing pollution.

Referring to a recent Supreme Court order that imposed an ‘environment compensation charge’ (ECC) on commercial vehicles entering Delhi, Kumar has sought levying of similar charges on the commercial vehicles entering Gurgaon but heading somehwere else. A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar took cognisance of plea and issued notices to the authorities concerned, seeking a reply by November 20.
