Yamunanagar, November 13

Hindus and Sikhs have converged in thousands at Kapal Mochan mela in Bilaspur to take a holy dip in the sacred sarovars to attain ‘moksha’.

The main bath will take place in three sarovars—Kapal Mochan, Rin Mochan and Suraj Kund— on the occasion of Kartik Purnima at midnight today. After taking a holy dip, the pilgrims also light ‘diyas’ on the banks of the sarovars.

Deputy Commissioner SS Phulia said that lakhs of pilgrims from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Delhi reached here every year for the five-day mela.

However sources said that the presence of pilgrims was thin this year as people didn’t have currency notes due to government’s announcement that Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes ceased to be legal tender from November 8 midnight. The mela has been presenting interesting sites with groups of wondering sadhus and pilgrims camping at the religious sites.

A number of community kitchens have been set up for pilgrims by various religious and non-government organisations. The DC said special buses of Yamunanagar depot of Haryana Roadways had been ferrying passengers from Yamunanagar’s railway station and the bus stands Yamunanagar and Jagadhri to the mela venue.
