Railway unions to go on strike from July 11

JHAJJAR: The Centre is ignoring the safety aspects of the Railways by not filling the vacant posts of guards, drivers, and trackmen.

Jhajjar, June 26

The Centre is ignoring the safety aspects of the Railways by not filling the vacant posts of guards, drivers, and trackmen. This kind of irresponsible attitude of the government is not only causing resentment among the employees, but also depriving youth of getting employment in the department.

This was stated by Anup Sharma, secretary of Northern Railways Men’s Union (NRMU), Delhi here today. He said the railway unions had unanimously decided to go on a nation-wide indefinite strike from July 11 if the union government did not accept their demands, including reversion of the National Pension Scheme, non-privatisation, no FDI, and recruitment of staff.

He said: “Over 2.5 lakh posts are lying vacant in the Railways for a long time, but the Centre’s stance is anti-employee. The union had raised the issue many times, but it went unheeded.”
