Ambala, March 29

Roadways employees observed a ‘chakka jam’ for four hours over a dispute with fruit vendors outside the bus stand here today.

The fruit vendors allegedly assaulted roadways employees after they asked them to remove rehris.

Jasbir Singh, a conductor, said, “I asked a fruit vendor to remove his rehri as there was no space for the bus to enter the bus stand. Instead of removing it, he started misbehaving. The vendors attacked us when we called the supervisor of the bus stand.”

They claimed similar incidents had happened in the past too. Protesting employees said they would not ply buses till the rehris were removed and action was taken against the vendors.

Kuldheer Singh, GM, Haryana Roadways, reached the spot and ordered removal of rehris after which the protesters lifted the dharna. The police have booked vendors for attacking Roadways employees.
