SC/ST Act reviewed

CHANDIGARH: Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education) Vijai Vardhan, who is also the nodal officer for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, today directed the officers concerned for the appointment of an officer of the District Attorney Office as nodal officer for dealing with the cases related to the Act.

Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education) Vijai Vardhan, who is also the nodal officer for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, today directed the officers concerned for the appointment of an officer of the District Attorney Office as nodal officer for dealing with the cases related to the Act.

Vardhan said this while presiding over the quarterly review meeting here today.

He also asked the officers to prepare a list of crime concerning people belonging to SCs such as fire incidents, stone-throwing, murder and rape cases so that efforts could be made for deciding these cases on priority.

He said the DCs and the SPs concerned should take stock of the situation by visiting sites where heinous crime related to SCs took place so that a feeling of security could be created among affected people.
