Karnal, February 21

KC Bangar, national spokesman of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), today said the party was set to march towards Punjab on February 23 to dig the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.

Leader of Opposition in Haryana Abhay Singh Chautala would lead the march, he said while interacting with mediapersons at the residence of district president Yashveer Rana. Before the march, a rally would be held at the Ambala grain market, Bangar said.

Asked about the deployment of armed forces to prevent any untoward incident on the border with Punjab, he said they would dig the canal and lakhs of party workers would be present for the purpose.

Asserting that the SYL canal was the lifeline of the state, he said the demand for water in various districts would end with water coming from Punjab.

Taking a dig at Health Minister Anil Vij for claiming that the INLD move was a publicity stunt, he said it could be his view. The BJP was not serious about the interests of Haryana, he claimed.

The INLD national spokesman said the BJP had a casual approach on the issue as it had failed to implement the Supreme Court verdict. Asked about the possibility of Jat leader Yashpal Malik forming a political party, Bangar said that if he started any political innings, it would be on the ground.

Bangar was accompanied by Rana, district spokesman Harpal Kalampura and block president Om Parkash Saluja.
