HPCC chief Ashok Tanwar said the Congress was contemplating contesting the coming municipal corporation (MC) elections on its symbol.

Party workers contested the last civic bodies polls in 2013 independently.

After a party workers’ meet here on Saturday, Tanwar said Congress councillors, leaders and workers wanted that the party should contest the local bodies polls on its symbol. “Their demand is being considered and a final call will be taken after declaration of the elections schedule. The party workers are confident of the victory, considering the BJP government has failed to meet public expectation,” he said.

Tanwar said the third phase of ‘Haryana Bachao, Privartan Laao’ cycle yatra would begin from Garhi-Sampla town in Rohtak district from July 19 and culminate in Kalanaur town on July 22.

Flaying the state government for its move of purchasing a helicopter for the CM, Tanwar said on the one hand, ASHA and sanitary workers were protesting statewide for “fair” salaries, on the other, the government was spending crores in buying SUVs for its ministers and chopper for the CM.

Earlier, addressing the party workers, Tanwar accused the BJP government of dividing society on the basis of caste and religion to serve its political interest. He called upon them to reach out to public and expose anti-people move of the BJP government.
