Kurukshetra, February 26

The Haryana Contractual Teachers Association has demanded that the services of contractual teachers be regularised as per the 10-year regularisation policy.

Dr Abhinav, a contractual assistant professor at Kurukshetra University and the state media secretary of the association, said on June 23, 2020, the Director of Haryana Higher Education had issued a letter to 10 universities of the state to implement service security for the assistant professors working on contract and the universities were asked to take necessary action within 15 days and send a report to the Directorate of Higher Education.

A reminder was issued for implementation and again instructions were given to take necessary action regarding this matter within the 15 days after the reminder notice.

He added that it was a matter of great disappointment that even after four years, no positive action has been taken in this matter by any university of the state. He said the demand must be considered again by the government.

Dr Abhinav said the Kurukshetra University was recently awarded ‘A++’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the contribution of contractual teachers could not be ignored in achieving the top grade.

To maintain the A++ grade of KU in future, it was necessary to assign the responsibilities to long–serving contractual teachers with more responsibility, he said. If the demands were not met soon, the association would hold a meeting to decide the future course of action.

Dr Ajay Kumar, state general secretary of the association, said more than 50 contractual teachers of KU had completed tenures of 10 years or more and they were hopeful that they would be soon regularised by the government. It was difficult to make ends meet in the contractual position, he said.

He added that the contractual teachers of all universities fulfil the minimum qualifications set by the University Grants Commission and had been continuously providing educational services since 2014 and were playing an important role in the development of the state and country.
