The SIT, Gohana, on Sunday evening arrested Vikram of Khanpur Kalan village, who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping, rape and murder of a BSc student of Bhanderi village on November 12.

The accused had allegedly killed the girl after raping her at a restaurant on the outskirts of Gohana town and threw the body in Jawahar Lal Nehru Canal near Lath village on the Gohana-Sonepat road the same night.

Vikram was produced in the court here today. The court sent him to seven-day police custody for recovery of the victim’s body and arrest of his accomplice, if any.

The case was registered at the Baroda police station in the district.

According to Gohana DSP Rajiv Deswal, the police had taken into custody seven suspects in the case but the main accused Vikram had been evading arrest. “The police have announced a reward of Rs 50,000 on Vikram’s arrest,” the DSP added.

During interrogation, Deswal said, the accused confessed that he kidnapped the girl from the Government College in Gohana on November 12, booked a room in a restaurant on her ID, sold her scooty, threw her mobile phone in a drum on the Gohana-Kharkhoda road and kept her Aadhaar card with himself after committing the crime.

The victim’s family members had traced her phone and on the basis of the call details, they suspected Vikram’s involvement in her kidnapping and lodged a complaint at the Baroda police station. Later, the investigation was handed over to the SIT, Gohana.— OC
