Ruckus erupted at the district courts in Ambala City this afternoon when a woman allegedly slapped a lady constable on duty as the latter had asked the woman to get her handbag checked.

As commotion ensued, some lawyers and their clients gathered around the women; a few women advocates also came out in support of the lady constable, Simran.

Simran registered a case against the woman, Rachna Gupta, with the City Police under sections 332(causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty) and 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty) of the IPC. Rachna was produced in court and she was sent to judicial custody.

According to the police, Rachna, a resident of Ambala Cantt had come to the court complex to appear in a case. When she was walking in the corridor, Simran asked Rachna to get her handbag checked; after an argument, Rachna slapped Simran.

Interestingly, a case was registered against Rachna on the spot instead of taking her to the police station. SHO Rajneesh Yadav, who reached the spot, said the lady constable’s medical examination was conducted at the civil hospital as she sustained a minor injury on her ear.
