Rohtak, June 19

Traders of Kalanaur township in the district on Tuesday kept their shops closed and staged a dharna to register their protest against loot and firing at a local shopkeeper the previous day.

The local traders’ association announced that the market would not be opened till the arrest of miscreants involved in the incident. The local police assured the traders of prompt action regarding the matter.

Kalanaur Vyapar Mandal president Banti Bathla said the involvement of the same miscreants in several incidents on Monday indicated that they had no fear of the law and the police had become ineffective.

Congress MP from Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda decried the incidents of crime that took place in Kalanaur and Sampla townships in the district.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the MP said the law and order situation in Haryana had become miserable and it seemed that there was no government in the state.

“The state, which used to be on the top pedestal in terms of peace and development, had now become number one in crime, which was quite shameful,” he remarked. — TNS
