Decision on licences to wood-based industry today
Chandigarh, May 22
Poplar growers are wary of the state government’s intentions to issue new licences to plywood units as the State Licencing Committee (SLC) for wood-based industries has called a meeting for tomorrow.
“We have been fighting for issuance of new licences to the wood-based industry for the past several years so that farmers could get remunerative price for their produce, but the SLC has called the existing units too, which are against any new unit in the state,” said Satpal Kaushik, president of the Haryana Poplar Safeda Utpadak Kisan Sangharsh Samiti.
Kaushik says the farmers have been demanding that the government should issue 934 new licences as per its own policy immediately so that the poplar farmers do not have to sell their produce in distress. —TNS
