Decks cleared for IIIT construction
Sonepat, July 21
Decks have been cleared for restarting the construction of the India Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) on 50 acres of the Kilorad gram panchayat land. A modified resolution in this regard was passed by the gram panchayat of Kilorad village in the district yesterday.
Three years ago, the gram panchayat resolution for leasing out the land was passed in favour of the state Technical Education Department and the construction of the boundary wall was started a few months ago. However, some objections were raised by the Centre over the contents of the resolution, after which it demanded a modified resolution in favour of the Society for IIIT.
KM Pandurang, Deputy Commissioner, confirmed receiving the modified resolution. He said it would be sent to the Technical Education Department. The first phase of the project had been estimated to cost around Rs 128 crore, he added.—OC
