The demonetisation has brought a windfall for the power utility — Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) — in Hisar circle, which registered an unprecedented 116 per cent of its target of remittance in bank (RIB) in terms of arrears and the current power bills.

The DHBVN officials informed that Hisar circle achieved a total RIB of Rs 120.29 crore against its target of Rs 101.61 crore in November.

Superintending Engineer (Operations) DL Hansu said Tohana and Fatehabad divisions were top performers with 123 per cent recovery of the current bills and arrears by November 30.

The power utility recovered an amount of Rs 16.06 crore against a target of 12.50 crore in Tohana division while Rs 18.76 crore were recovered against a target of Rs 14.67 crore in Fatehabad.

Similarly, Hisar-1 and Hisar -2 too achieved 122 per cent and 119 per cent of the RIB target, respectively. However, Hansi division lagged with 79 per cent recovery.

The officials attributed the unprecedented performance to the scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.

Sources said they got comparatively better response in the urban areas than the rural areas in recovery of pending as well as current bills. The low recovery in Hansi division, majorly a rural segment, indicated the trend as against a target of Rs 14.50 crore, the DHBVN got an amount of Rs 12.16 crore. Sisay sub-division of the division was lowest in RIB as it achieved only 35 per cent of the target recovery of Rs 10 crore.

The DHBVN sources said the power utility recovered dues of approximately Rs 100 crore against the total over Rs 4,000 crore in its nine circles — Hisar, Sirsa, Faridabad, Bhiwani, Narnaul, Gurgaon, Rewari, Palwal and Jind.
