Dengue larvae found in 16,000 spots in Gurgaon

GURGAON: A survey conducted by the district malaria authorities from August 19 to 30 has found the dengue larvae breeding in over 16,000 spots in the city.

A survey conducted by the district malaria authorities from August 19 to 30 has found the dengue larvae breeding in over 16,000 spots in the city. The survey team visited over 64,900 places in the city to take stock of the situation.

As many as 18 persons were served notices for allegedly ignoring the directives pertaining to the prevention of the vector-borne diseases.

During the survey, 48,991 coolers, over 19,000 water tanks, 3,000 water storage areas and 54,000 pots were checked in addition to over 3,000 places in houses where water was logged.

“Though we have done our work, people are still taking dengue threat lightly,” said Dr VK Thapar, district malaria officer.

Citing carelessness and ignorance about dengue prevention as the major reason behind the menace, the authorities have decided to create awareness through phones. As per plan, the Gurgaon administration will send SMSs to residents about dengue and the ways to prevent it Dengue has scaled unprecedented heights in the city, with the Health Department confirming 80 cases. Private hospitals have pegged the figure at 120.

Symptoms

People infected by the dengue virus may suffer from high fever, severe headache, joint pain, muscle and bone pain, rash and mild bleeding

Precautions

Avoid storing water at home for over three days. Do not ignore water accumulated in coolers, water tanks, pots or in surrounding areas of your residence
