The Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri, today resigned from his post.

Deputy Mayor Rampal has been facing charges of sexual harassment. On the complaint of a woman councillor, a case had been registered against him under Sections 354 A of the IPC and 67 of the IT Act at the Women police station here on July 14.

Additional Sessions Judge Poonam Suneja had dismissed his anticipatory bail application on July 20. However, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him anticipatory bail yesterday. “I resign from the post of Deputy Mayor due to personal reason,” wrote Rampal in his resignation letter.

Rampal submitted his resignation letter to Mayor Saroj Bala who accepted it and sent it to the Executive Officer of the corporation for further action.

In her complaint to the Superintendent of Police (SP) on July 10, the councillor had alleged that the Deputy Mayor used to pass lewd remarks against her in the MC office.—TNS
