Vishwas Gupta, former husband of Honeypreet Insan, today claimed that her relationship with Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was not that between father and daughter.

Gupta had accused Ram Rahim of sexually exploiting his wife in 2011, only to publicly apologise three years later. Had he not made peace, the dera head would have got him and members of his family killed, Gupta said today.

He gave details of his marriage, Ram Rahim’s “illicit relations” with his wife and attempts on his life after raising his voice on seeing the two in a “compromising position” in a Mumbai hotel.

“Ram Rahim is a venomous person. Even in jail, he can get me killed by his henchmen. While stepping out of home today, I hugged my wife and child, telling them that I was not sure that I would return,” he said as he broke down.

He said within days of approaching the Punjab and Haryana High Court and speaking to the media about Ram Rahim’s relationship with Honeypreet in 2011, a dowry case had been slapped against him and his elderly parents.

“When I got anticipatory bail, two false cheque bounce cases were filed against me in Mohali and Rajasthan. I was put in the Patiala jail, where Rs 10 lakh was offered to kill me. I am grateful to Balwant Singh Rajoana, who was then in jail for Beant Singh murder, for saving me,” Gupta said.

He said Ram Rahim always kept a box of arms with him, which was put in whichever car he travelled. He said the self-styled godman made them play “Big Boss” in Gufa and made them spend 26 days there. Gupta pointed out that Honeypreet had never been legally adopted. He refuted reports that Vipassana Insan was against Honeypreet. “Honeypreet was queen and Vipassana an employee. There was no match between the two,” he said.

He dismissed reports that Honeypreet’s life was in danger. Unless Ram Rahim decided to get her killed, no followers had the courage to go near her, he said.

Gupta was all praise for Ram Rahim’s son Jasmeet, daughters Amarpreet Kaur and Charanpreet Kaur and sons-in-law. He said they were nice, but had no say as only Honeypreet’s writ ran in the dera.
