The district police have arrested BJP leader and former MLA Roshan Lal Arya in a cheating case. Arya had allegedly cheated a Delhi resident of Rs 30 lakh in the name of change of land use (CLU).
The police today produced him in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sunil Jindal, who remanded him in three-day police custody.
Sources said that a police team headed by Ajit Singh, SHO, City police station, arrested Arya from Rewari late last night.
Arya was arrested by the Rewari police from Jaipur Airport in Rajasthan yesterday in connection with a sedition case registered against him.
The Rewari police freed Arya after he produced bail documents which he got from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the case yesterday itself.
Adarshdeep Singh, DSP (Headquarters), Yamunanagar, said after getting information of Arya’s arrest, the district police reached Rewari and arrested him in connection with a case registered against him under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) at the City police station on April 26 this year.
In his complaint, Vishal Aggarwal, a resident of New Delhi, alleged that Arya called them to his house in Model Town, Yamunanagar, and took Rs 30 lakh for getting CLU done of their land in Sector-57, Gurgaon. Arya had told them that he was a former chairman of the Haryana Seeds Development Corporation and had very homely relationship with the then Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and their family members, Aggarwal alleged.
He said that it had been more than three years since he took the money. “He has been giving us false hopes of returning our money, but not returned even a single rupee. Later, he also started threatening us that he would not let our land get approved. With his influence, he would get more objections made on our file which is lying in the office of Director, Town and Country planning,” Aggarwal said.
Arya was elected MLA from Chhachhrauli (now part of Jagadhri Assembly constituency) in Yamunanagar district in 1982. He was the chairman of the Haryana Seeds Development Corporation from 2006 to 2008. A former Congress leader, Arya had joined the BJP before the last Assembly elections.
Arya, who is facing sedition charges in Rewari and Nuh (Firojpur Jhirka) districts, told mediapersons in the court that he was being harassed by the police because he was raising voice for the rights of the deprived people of the state.
