The Haryana Poplar Safeda Utpadak Kisan Sangrash Samiti has urged the Centre to exempt plyboard from the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a member of the sangrash samiti, Satpal Kaushik, said the poplar was being produced by farmers as an agriculture product.

He said a number of farmers had already started making distance from the cultivation of poplar following sharp decrease in its rates.

He added that if the government didn’t make the plyboard GST free, the said decision would lead to a further decrease in poplar rates.
