Gurugram, January 21
Yashpal Yadav, Administrator, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), and Praveen Kumar, DG, Archaeology and Museums, inspected the 100-year-old stepwell at Badshahpur today. Villagers have claimed that the heritage stepwell, which was built in 1905, was being filled with soil to enable construction of a sector road by HUDA.
Yadav said, “We are trying to gather archeological details of the site. We want to preserve the structure and are assessing the situation and will decide further course on action on the basis of archaeological findings.”
The baoli, which is being studied as part of a heritage conservation project, was listed by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage. But, it continues to be in a state of neglect. Though not legally protected, the baoli features as a structure of historical importance on the website of the Ministry of Culture. — TNS
