Exploration soon in Sirsa village to track Saraswati

Under the Haryana BJP government’s project for restoration and research work on the mythical Saraswati river, experts have identified a site at Farwai village of Sirsa where they plan to start exploration activities in a couple of days.

A team from the Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS), an agency hired by the ONGC, visited Farwai village today and identified the spot for exploration near the Ghaggar flowing nearby.

“The team is expected to arrive in Sirsa again in a couple of days with the equipment needed to carry out exploration works and digging activities are expected to begin soon,” says Pritpal Singh, District Development and Panchayat Officer in Sirsa, who is nodal officer for the district for this work.

SS Chahal, a retired superintending engineer who is heading the exploration activities for the WAPCOS, tells The Tribune that Farwai is one of the 10 sites in Haryana where the Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board has planned to do digging for restoration and research work of the lost Vedic river.

Among the other nine sites — five are in Yamunanagar district, two in Kurukshetra and one each in Kaithal, Fatehabad and Sirsa.

Under the exploration work, the teams of WAPCOS are to dig bore well up to the depth of 500 meters to reach up to the Saraswati which is believed to be flowing underneath. “ISRO studies had confirmed the route of mythical Saraswati river and the sites chosen by the WAPCOS are based on the ISRO report,” says Chahal.

Under its project for restoration and research work on the Vedic river, the Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ONGC in July this year.

Under the terms of the MoU, the ONGC is to dig 100 wells on the flow path of Saraswati river in the country, including 10 in Haryana.
