Notwithstanding the All Haryana Roadways Workers Joint Action Committee’s announcement to call off its strike after a meeting with Haryana Transport Minister Krishan Panwar, a coordination committee of five unions has decided to go ahead with its “chakka jam” tomorrow in view of the nationwide strike by trade unions.

Sarbat Singh Punia, state president of the Haryana Roadways Workers Union affiliated to the Sarva Karamchari Sangh, said : “Tomorrow’s strike is on the call given by 10 central trade unions and the issues involved in the strike are largely national in nature which the state government cannot address. We had already brought this to the notice of the minister and hence the strike will be held as per programme,” Punia said.

He said he was touring the state today to mobilise support for the strike.

Madan Lal Koth, depot president of the Haryana Roadways Workers Union, said only the unions headed by Dalbir Kirmara and Hari Narain Sharma working under the banner of the All-Haryana Roadways Workers Joint Action Committee had backed out while the other five—Haryana Roadways Workers Unions, Haryana Roadways Karamachari Mahasangh, INTUC, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh and the Haryana Ministerial Staff Union— would participate in tomorrow’s “chakka jam” in the state.

Meanwhile, Fatehabad Deputy Commissioner NK Solanki has promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 144, CrPC, in view of the strike. The orders prohibit the assembly of five or more persons, carrying of firearms or other lethal weapons and combustible material within a radius of 100 meters from the General Bus Stand, Fatehabad, and Tohana sub-deport till tomorrow.
