Gang-raped Mewat teen kills self; eight booked

A 17-year-old girl committed suicide after she was allegedly abducted and then gang-raped by eight men in Khor Basai village of Mewat on Tuesday.

The victim’s parents were away to a relative’s place and she was alone in the house when the incident took place.

Eight men came on two motorcycles and in a car and abducted her from her house on Monday night. They allegedly took her to the Maahon road and gang-raped her. After committing the crime, the accused fled the spot, leaving her to die. An acquaintance of her father somehow crossed the road and saw her lying unconscious. He took her to her house and called her parents. By the time they could reach the house, she committed suicide.

The police were informed and following preliminary investigation and on the basis of circumstantial evidence, an FIR was registered against Ikraam, Aqram, Naasir, Irshaad, Marul, Mubarik, Jamshed and Wasim, all residents of the same or nearby villages.

“We have registered a case and conducting raids to nab the accused,” said Rozka Mev SHO Jai Bhaan. Later, the police added abetment of suicide section in the FIR.

Meanwhile, the family alleged that all accused belong to well-off families of the village and were pressurising them to withdraw the complaint. “We are in trauma. My wife has not uttered a word since we saw her hanging. My daughter was the most beautiful girl in village and her beauty became her biggest misfortune. We want death penalty for the accused,” said the victim’s father.

Man booked on rape charge

Sonepat: A 24-year-old girl from a local colony was allegedly raped by the brother of her girl friend for three years after giving assurance of marriage.  However, when she became two-month pregnant and asked him to marry her, the alleged accused, Ashu, a resident of local Indira colony, threatened her with dire consequences and had gone underground. According to Inspector Kavita, SHO of local Mahila Police Station, on the complaint of victim, a case under Sections 376 and 452 of the IPC has been registered against the alleged accused. OC

Minor raped by cousin, married off

Fatehabad: A man raped his minor cousin for several years in a village of Ratia subdivision in Fatehabad district and then married her off when she was still a minor. The police registered a case against the man, Rajan, his mother Jaswinder Kaur, uncle Narain Singh, sister Navdeep Kaur and the victim’s husband Gurpreet under various sections of the POCSO Act and the Prevention of Child Marriage Act.The victim had alleged that after the death of her parents, she started living with the family of her father’s sister. During her stay, the victim’s cousin used to rape her and other members of the family beat her up on small matters. On December 1, 2015, when she was 16, the victim was married off to Gurpreet Singh against her will. — TNS
