Karnal, April 20

Gharaunda legislator Harvinder Kalyan fumed at the poor lifting of wheat at Karnal and Gharaunda grain markets today. He directed officials to speed up the lifting process so that farmers should not face any problem.

The legislator paid a surprise visit to the grain markets.

“Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is serious about the plight of farmers. So he announced procurement of the entire stock without any value cut. Farmers need not worry, as the government is concerned about them,” Kalyan said.

On account of poor lifting, farmers said, they were facing space crunch at grain markets.

Directing the secretary, market committee, and officials of the procurement agencies, the MLA said they should keep a check on the lifting process. He asked officials to stop farmers from Uttar Pradesh to sell off their produce in local grain markets.

Commission agents, meanwhile, told Kalyan some truck drivers demanded bribe for lifting wheat from their shops. They alleged that some commission agents were getting about 20 gate passes for lifting wheat, but some of the small-time agents were waiting for a single gate pass. Kalyan directed the officials to look into the matter.

After inspecting the grain markets, the MLA met Deputy Commissioner (DC) J Ganesan, directing him to speed up the lifting process.
