Suman Rani, who teaches in a private college at Bhuna, could not believe she unfurled the Tricolour during an Independence Day function in her native village Jandli Kalan.
“Words cannot describe the thrill I had when I hoisted the Tricolour in the village school with my father, brother and younger sister among the guests,” said Suman, who has done M Com and MBA. She was the chief guest of the function.
The state government ordered school principals and village panchayats to celebrate Independence Day on the theme “Beti ka salam, Rastra ke naam” under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme. As per it, the most educated girl of a village hoisted the national flag in their respective villages.
Mahima Lamba pursuing an MBBS course unfurled the national flag at a function in Arnianwali village. “Education is the only way to empower girls,” she said in her address.
At Government Middle School in Nejiakhera village, Preeti, a former student of the school, hoisted the Tricolour. She is doing post-graduation in public administration.
Sirsa resident Monica Gupta, who has penned three children books, said it was a wonderful move of the government to let girls hoist the Tricolour and would go a long way in empowering women.
