Ashok Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, has issued a show cause notices to Pooja Sharma, BDPO, and Ganjendri Devi, sarpanch of Kakripur village of the district, for illegally digging land at the community centre of the village.

The land at the community centre was reportedly dug up by the contractor to fill the village pond with the soil removed. Sources said the sarpanch was asked to dig up land used by the Fisheries Department. However, she did not comply with the directions, thus causing damage to the premises of the community centre, they said.

The DC said, “It is a case of theft and the sarpanch is directly responsible for it. She has been asked to respond to the notice within 10 days.”

He also said that the BDPO, also appointed as Duty Magistrate for the work, failed to deliver her job. The DC said legal action would be taken against those found guilty.
