Dr Shailender Mamgain, a senior physician at Lok Naik Jai Prakash Civil Hospital here, has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a patient.

The complainant alleged that the doctor raped her at the government hospital on Tuesday when she approached him for treatment.

DSP Tanya Singh said the accused was today produced before a local court that sent him to 14-day judicial custody. Samples had been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Madhuban.

Police sources said the woman alleged that Dr Mamgain sexually abused her in a room next to where he treats patients at the hospital.

The complainant, who belongs to a village in the district, alleged that the doctor raped her after giving her a sedative in form of an injection.

According to the complainant, she had gone for a check-up to the outpatient department (OPD) of the hospital on Tuesday morning. Dr Mamgain told her to wait as she was to be given an injectable medicine.

The doctor called her in to his room in the afternoon, gave her an injection and sexually abused her when she was unconscious. The victim alleged that she regained consciousness in another room and realised that she had been sexually assaulted.
