Hisar, May 23

Now, playing truant won’t be easy for the students in government schools.

The school would strike off the names of the students who do not attend school for seven consecutive days.

The Education Department has issued orders to all primary and middle government schools for strict compliance in this context. The circular was received through email today.

The decision would also put curb the menace of bogus admissions in government schools.

Principal Secretary, School Education, TC Gupta stated that it has been observed during inspections that there is a marked difference between actual attendance and the student enrolment.

“The teacher unions have also highlighted this fact. Parents of students who often remain absent are not serious about their child’s attendance in the school.

Hence, the decision to strike off the name of the students are absent for a week, the circular states.

The department has also asked the schools to register such students in the dropout category in a separate register.

“Efforts will be made to bring such students back to the schools. If these students reapply for admission during the academic session, the school head shall admit them immediately”, the circular stated.

Students who remain absent during the monthly tests cannot claim any scholarship or incentives.

But such students may reappear in the test and would also be entitled for the scholarship/incentives when the assessment results are out, it said.

Getting tough with the teachers the department has also decided to withhold the salary of the school heads if the school failed to upload the monthly test results of the students on the web portal of the department.
