Sirsa, May 26

District units of the Haryana Roadways Employees Coordination Committee (HRECC) and the Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh today held a demonstration in Sirsa in support of guest teachers facing the axe in wake of the High Court orders.

The district unit of the HRECC protested under the leadership of Ram Kumar Chunaria, Madan Lal Khoth, Bhim Singh, Chander Shekhar and Chanchal Bishnoi.

The roadways employees expressed grief over the death of a guest teacher, Sunita Rani, out of shock after receipt of the removal notice. They demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation and a government job to a member of her family.

Atma Ram Saharan, president, and Devi Lal Birda, organising secretary, led the demonstration of the Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh.

The Mahasangh leaders alleged that the previous government had appointed guest teachers under a policy looking in to the future of the schoolchildren.

But the present government had failed to keep its position properly before the Punjab and Haryana High Court and had, in the process, snatched the bread and butter of hundreds of families.

Meanwhile, villagers expressed resentment at Jamal village of Sirsa after guest teachers locked the building of the government school. Villagers Bhup Singh Beniwal, Chhotu Ram and others alleged that the guest teachers were playing with the future of children for their own selfish ends.

Villagers said the guest teachers should move court against their removal.

In Jogiwala, students locked the government school’s building in support of the striking guest teachers.

In the evening, the guest teachers held a demonstration in Sirsa town and burnt the government’s effigy.

Yamunanagar: Guest teachers demonstrated outside the house of Haryana Assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal Gurjar this evening, demanding regularisation of their jobs.

District president of Haryana Guest Teachers Association Shyam Kumar said the government should regularise their job instead of removing them.

Extending support to guest teachers, members of Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh, led by district president Ashok Sharma, also held a demonstration at the mini secretariat, Yamuanagar.

District president of Haryana Vidhalay Adhyapak Sangh Surinder Saini alleged that the government was making efforts to privatise and commercialise education in Haryana.
