Gurgaon flooded in season’s heaviest rainfall

Gurgaon recorded season’s heaviest rainfall today. The downpour, recorded at 53 mm, started at around 8 am and continued till 10:30 am. The NHAI, civic authorities and the police were on their toes to avoid any July 28-like situation.

“We are working to the best of our capability. The police force has done a commendable job and will ensure that Gurgaon has jam-free monsoons,” said Police Commissioner Sandeep Khairwar.

Areas like Hero Honda Chowk, Sohna Road, Manesar, Udyog Vihar, Old Gurgaon Road, Sheetla Mata road and Rajeev Chowk were also flooded. The water level in the Badshapur drain touched the danger mark and Hero Honda Chowk had 22 cusec of water.

Water from the Aravallis flooded low-lying areas in Manesar and Sohna and Hero Honda chowk.

“The Badshahpur drain and Delhi’s Nazafgarh drain were overflowing. This led to waterlogging in surrounding areas, but the Gurgaon administration cleared the area in an hour. The MCG deputed officials and used pumps in all sectors. The absence of storm water drains is causing the problem of flooding and it will take some months to fix it. Over all, we and the police department managed to keep things moving,” said TL Satya Prakash, DC.

“The Badshapur drain and part of the Aravallis in Ghata is a major concern and we are working on it. Hero Honda Chowk, the key trouble spot, will be fixed soon. The Aravallis lost natural drainage to previous government’s real estate ambitions, but we are working to revive the lost dams and drains,” said Environment Minister Rao Narbir.
