Gurgaon, June 30
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today announced that the Gurgaon railway station would be turned into a smart facility. He said several measures would be taken to upgrade the railway station.
“Gurgaon is important for the corporate sector. Thus, city’s every aspect has to match with its growth and repute,” he said in a video-conference.
Prabhu further said, “Gurgaon’s name has been changed to Gurugram. I feel that the station will also be named after Gurugram. It will have all facilities and become a model for other stations.”
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a foot overbridge at the Gurgaon railway station and an auto-car loading facility at the Farukhnagar railway station today.
Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh was present at the function in Gurgaon.
“Gurgaon railway station will be developed as a smart railway station to match the city’s status and needs,” he said.
Rao Inderjit hit out at the previous UPA government. “Analyse the announcements made and implemented during the 10-year Congress regime pertaining to Railways. It comes out to be ‘zero by zero’. Now, Rs 1,000 crore is being spent annually on works related to railway in Haryana whereas only Rs 300 crore was spent annually during the Congress regime.”
Nearly 100 trains halt at the railway station which lacks benches and drinking water facility.
Prabhu had visited the station in January 2015 and was shocked to see the poor state of affairs.
