Guv halts process to select asst profs in Sirsa varsity

CHANDIGARH: Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Wednesday put on hold the process to select assistant professors at Chaudhary Devi Lal University two days after Registrar Aseem Miglani alleged violation of rules by Vice Chancellor Vijay Kayat.

Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Wednesday put on hold the process to select assistant professors at Chaudhary Devi Lal University two days after Registrar Aseem Miglani alleged violation of rules by Vice Chancellor Vijay Kayat.

In an e-mail, the Governor’s office intimated the university in Sirsa that Professor Solanki had put on hold the selection process and directed Jyoti Arora, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, to get the matter probed.

Interviews for three posts of assistant professor in the law department were held on June 17 and the fate of selected candidates sealed in envelopes. These envelopes would not be opened till further orders from the Governor.

As per statutes, the envelopes containing names of selected candidates could be opened in a meeting of the executive council of the university and names of selected candidates revealed at that time.

Dr Kayat confirmed receipt of the communication, but reiterated that there was no irregularity in excluding Dr Miglani from the selection process.

“On July 21, 2011, the Ministry of Human Resource Development issued new guidelines for selection of assistant professors, associate professors and professors. Haryana adopted the guidelines, under which Registrars had no role in selection and was not a member of the selection committee,” said Dr Kayat.

Arora said she had not seen the letter yet. Dr Miglani stated in a letter to the Governor on Monday that Dr Kayat did not include him in the interview panel though “Registrar is secretary of selection committee”.
