Gurugram, September 15

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday met the family of the 7-year-old boy, Pradyuman Thakur, who was found murdered in Gurugram’s Ryan International School, and ordered a CBI probe into the matter.

The boy was found with his throat slit on the morning of September 8 in the school toilet. Police allege that 42-year-old bus conductor Ashok Kumar killed him with a knife after the boy resisted an attempt to sodomise him.

“This incident (the murder of Pradyuman) was unfortunate... Today I came here to meet the family. There was a demand from the family members and several others for handing over the case to the CBI for investigation,” he told reporters here.

“The Haryana Police has been properly conducting a probe in this case. Despite that and in view of the demand, this case is being handed over to the CBI for a probe. I appeal to the CBI to investigate the case as expeditiously as possible,” Khattar said.

“We have also decided that the management of the school will be taken over by the government for three months. The deputy commissioner (Gurgaon), under his supervision, will bring the system in the school on track,” he said.

Pradyuman’s father Varun Thakur thanked the chief minister and said, “We are grateful to them for being this sensitive to our pain and fear. We hope our son gets justice and the accused is nabbed soon.”

The police, meanwhile, questioned two more teachers under the JJ Act today. Pradyuman’s class in-charge was called by police for questioning as she was first to be informed by gardener about the murder.

“We have efficiently carried out investigations and prepared a charge-sheet. We will cooperate with any other investigating agency that comes on board,” said CP Sandeep Khirwar.  — With PTI
