PANIPAT: Haryanavi singer Harshita Dahiya was shot dead on the Chamrara-Kakoda road in the Israna block of the district this evening.

Haryanavi singer Harshita Dahiya was shot dead on the Chamrara-Kakoda road in the Israna block of the district this evening.

She was on her way back home after a programme in Chamrara village when five or six rounds were fired at her around 4:15 pm.

The assailants came in a car and fled the spot after confirming that she was dead. Harshita (22) of Nahra-Nahri village in Sonepat district, had been staying in the Narela area of Delhi.

She was returning with male singer Pradeep of Rathdhana village in Sonepat district, woman assistant Nisha of Ballabgarh and driver Sandeep, a resident of Gumar village in Sonepat district, when their car was forced to halt as a black car blocked the way.

Two or three youths came out of the car and forced the three persons accompanying Harshita to get out of the car.

After this, they started firing at Harshita on the forehead. After firing five or six rounds, the assailants fled the spot.

SP Rahul Sharma said a case was registered. Teams were on the job to verify all facts, he added. He visited the spot with DSP Deshraj and a forensic team.

The police took the other three car occupants into custody to verify facts. The body was sent to mortuary of the general hospital.
