Haryana Health minister Anil Vij on Sunday asked the doctors at Rohtak's Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) to end their stir in the wake of an FIR against medical and paramedical staff following the death of a woman and her newborn baby at the hospital this week.

Several postgraduate doctors, interns and resident doctors went on strike on Friday demanding cancellation of the FIR that was lodged after the woman and her newborn baby died in the labour room.

"The doctors should immediately end their strike and cooperate with police investigations," Vij said.

"It's a serious issue. The allegations levelled by the woman's family against the staff are very serious. The matter pertains to negligence and assault in treatment of a common person," Vij said.

Neelam, a resident of Jind district, and her newborn child died at the hospital on May 18.

Her husband Sunil and family members have alleged that she died due to negligence and manhandling by doctors and other staffers, but the PGIMS authorities have maintained that the child was stillborn, while the woman died due to her critical health condition.

On Vij's direction and on the basis of the complaint lodged by the woman's family, an FIR was lodged.

Vij is scheduled to meet the woman's family at their village today to gather full details about the incident from them. PTI
