Highly qualified, now constables

A total of 4,225 constables took part in the passing-out parade on completion of the recruit basic course at the Haryana Police Academy in Madhuban on Sunday.

The 84th batch was the first having highly qualified constables. Among the recruits, two had MPhil degree, 15 MTech, 16 MCA, 36 MBA, 33 MSc, 38 MCom, 103 MA, 273 BTech, 51 BCA, three LLB, 434 BSc, 215 BCom and 844 BA degree.

The authorities were of the opinion that induction of highly qualified constables would help in improving the image of Haryana Police among the people.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar called upon newly recruited constables to provide honest and sincere service to the people.

Khattar announced setting up of six traffic police stations on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal and Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal expressways, one each in Sonepat, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Mewat, Palwal and Faridabad districts, to regulate traffic.

He announced enhancement in ex gratia for family members of police personnel killed in the line of duty from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.

Of this, Rs 20 lakh would be given to the dependant of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh each to parents. In case parents were not alive, the grant would be given to the dependant.

Financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh would be given to terminally injured police personnel, Rs 10 lakh to severely injured cops and Rs 5 lakh to those with minor injuries.

Describing the batch as the most educated, Khattar said more than 50 per cent of the recruits were highly qualified. He said this would encourage others with high qualifications to opt for this career option in the future.

He said a provision for higher studies would be made for those desirous of continuing studies after Class XII. He said a no-objection certificate was not required from those applying for higher posts.

BS Sandhu, Director General of Police, said it was the biggest passing-out parade since 1990. He said the recruits had been trained in police administration, traffic management, maintenance of law and order, human behaviour, community policing and computers.
