Hisar, February 8
Mayyar village of the district, which was the epicentre of the Jat agitation three years ago, has again been chosen by various Jat groups for the launch of their stir. They will hold a rally in the village on January 12.
The police and the law enforcement agencies are on the tenterhooks in view of the stir threat.
The companies of the Hisar police today carried out a mock drill at the Police Lines in view of the agitation. The police have been instructed to use pepper guns to disperse the mob during the stir.
The sources said CID sleuths had been deployed in and around Mayyar village to assess the situation at the ground level. “The state government has been trying to assess the sentiment of the Jats on the issue. In case of a groundswell, the government will have to tackle the situation differently. At present, everything seems to be under control,” said the sources.
“We don’t want any confrontation with them. They are expected to stay on the road or the railway track for some time. The government doesn’t want any kind of tension that could flare up the situation,” he said.
Dhara Singh, a Jat leader from Mayyar village, said residents of several villages would join the stir. “Though the Jats are upset over to withdrawal of the OBC status, they won’t take any violent step,” he said.
