Three policemen including an assistant sub inspector (ASI) have been booked on charge of abetment to suicide, after a Home Guard jawan ended his life. The deceased, Rahul Kumar (21), who consumed poison on Thursday night, died at the LNJP Hospital here today.

In his suicide note, Rahul held Bajinder Singh, ASI and two other policemen, responsible for his death. He alleged that Baljinder and two other cops had thrashed him for having mistakenly kept a phone memory card of a private individual during an investigation.

Simardip Singh, Superintendent of Police, said a case of abetment to suicide had been registered against the three accused and investigations were under way.

Meanwhile, a large number of Home Guard volunteers gathered here to demand immediate arrest of the accused. Rohit, a Home Guard, alleged maltreatment by policemen on duty.

“We have raised the issue several times through our superiors with the police authorities but nothing has been done. Home Guard jawans are being humiliated by the police personnel on duty,” he alleged.
