Raahgiri, the district administration’s programme to promote non-motorised transport and healthy living at Gurgaon, was special in two ways today. One, a majority of participants were differently abled and second, they had Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in their midst.

Khattar not only enjoyed the morning activities, but was so impressed by the model, that he declared it would be started across the state.

Department of Empowerment for persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Gurgaon District Administration got together many physically and mentally challenged persons, in an effort to include them in curricular activities.

Khattar said, “Physically challenged persons constitute about 2 per cent of population of the country. For bringing them into the mainstream, it is necessary to work on their social, intellectual, physical and skill development.”

Programmes such as Raahgiri help in building confidence of the differently abled, Khattar said.

Khattar distributed accessories and helping devices such as motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, etc. among the participants. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gujjar also participated in this programme.

Khattar further said Gurgaon was a progressive and developing city, efforts were on to provide a good transport system here. He said a survey was being conducted to connect Gurgaon with Dwarka Sector-21 and the HUDA City Centre Metro station would be connected with Sector 9 in the old city via Subhash Chowk.

Referring to the city bus service, Khattar said this service would be improved by adding new buses to the city bus service fleet.

Later, Chief Minister Khattar also addressed party workers at a meeting in Sushant Lok-1, where he appealed to the workers to propagate the policies and programmes of the government to every household.
