Independence of media must be protected: VC

KURUKSHETRA: A seminar on ‘Credibility of Media and Challenges Before Journalists,’ was organised by the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology on the National Press Day at Kurukshetra University here today.

A seminar on ‘Credibility of Media and Challenges Before Journalists,’ was organised by the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology on the National Press Day at Kurukshetra University here today.

Vice Chancellor Prof KC Sharma said the right to question the authorities should be ensured at any cost to protect the independence of media.

He said the journalists should play an important role by offering a solution to various public-oriented issues. The VC said in a democratic society, media and academicians were looked upon as role models for inspiration. Both are expected to set high standards of morality and professional excellence.

Alok Srivastava, Editor of Aha Zindagi magazine, delivered the keynote address and said despite increased outreach of the media, the voice of a large section of the society was still not represented in the various media platforms.

Panini Anand, digital editor of Aaj Tak, said in a diverse society, mediapersons should be inquisitive and critical about the social problems.

Satish Srivastava, editor of Dainik Jagaran, said journalism itself was a challenge for the journalists as the profession was not getting enough number of committed journalists from the younger generation.
