Inmates to continue at Panipat home

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has directed the district administration to stop the process of shifting inmates of the orphanage at Sondhapur village in the district.

The district administration has put on hold the implementation of its order after receiving an order from the SCPCR chairperson in this connection.

In another development, all inmates of the orphanage were taken to the General Hospital for their medical examination today amid tight police security under the supervision of SDM Vivek Chaudhary and other officials.

As per sources, all preparations for shifting the orphanage inmates had been completed. The luggage of inmates had been packed and buses were ready. Officials had been appointed for the shifting of inmates, said sources.

Sunita Devi, a member of the SCPCR, Raj Singh Sangwan, chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Rohtak, and Surender Mann, CWC chairperson, Karnal, reached the General Hospital.

They stopped the shifting process and said they would inquire into the matter again. Sunita said the chairperson sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner today to stay the shifting. For the time being, shifting was postponed, she added.

Sangwan said they were here on an official invite from Suman Sood, CWC chairperson, Panipat, to inquire into the truth behind the administration’s decision.

Chander Shekhar Khare, Deputy Commissioner, said shifting of inmates from the orphanage was postponed after receipt of a letter from the SCPCR. It wanted to inquire the matter on its own, he added. The decision to shift inmates had not been cancelled, he pointed out.
